The Unexpected Benefits of Couponing
guest post by Sheila Dolan

Unlike most couponers, I began couponing as a hobby.  I was pregnant with my second child, became a stay at home mom and dabbled in a few frugal online sites (Hip2Save, Mojosavings etc).  I was thrilled with the FREE mail samples (toothpaste, skincare products, deodorants, flavored coffees etc) and the little OOP (out of pocket) at the registers that couponing provided.  Having majored in Accounting in college, numbers are my “thing”.  Now, over five (5) years later, I’m still couponing and saving more than ever!  Bottom line, I Black heart (cards) to coupon!

Scoping the weekly ads, finding the sweet steals (freebies) and/or centsible deals, adding to my stockpile and best of all…helping others.  Whether it’s blogging my finds, creating “gift baskets” for my friends and family members, donating Over the Counter (OTC) medications to Capital City Rescue Mission or personal care items to Fr. Peter Young’s Community Residence.  The art of couponing has saved me thousands, allowed me the opportunity to “share the wealth” with others less fortunate, and best of all learn something new every day.

Just recently one of my readers shared this “Capital Region Find“.  The Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center(AMC) accepts new toys and has a wishlist for both Walmart & Toys R Us!  You can brighten a child’s hospital stay by bringing an unwrapped & new toy, game, DVD, craft etc. into AMC.  There are two new game coupons available to clip (coupons.com) or check your donation box to help this worthy cause and make a difference.  You’ll be glad you did 😉

Sheila lives in the Albany area, coupons @ the local grocery, drugstores etc. and shares her “sweet steals & centsible deals” @ A Super Savvy Saver.

 Thanks, Sheila!
